Atlanta, GA 1928-Current

Delta Airlines was born as Huff Daland Dusters, Incorporated an aerial crop dusting operation on May 30, 1924, in Macon, Georgia. The company moved to Monroe, Louisiana in 1925, and began carrying passengers in late 1929. Collett E. Woolman purchased the company on September 13, 1928, and renamed it Delta Air Service, with headquarters in Monroe. The airlines moved to Atlanta in 1941. The current Delta Air Lines is the result of many airline mergers over the past 80+ years. The carriers forming the current Delta Air Lines include Chicago & Southern Air Lines merged into Delta in 1953. Delta flew under the carrier name of Delta-C&S for the following two years. Northeast Airlines merged into Delta in August 1972. Another merger was Western Airlines in 1987, which would include Standard Airlines in a previous merger. Delta bought a part of Pan American Airways assets and routes and that would include National Airlines and American Overseas Airlines which had merged with Pan Am. Delta started up an offspring called Song on April 15, 2003 but this was short lived as Song was folded into the Delta Mainline brand on May 1, 2006. On April 14, 2008, both Delta and Northwest Airlines announced that they would merge under the Delta name. All interested parties agreed and Delta's and Northwest's operating certificates were merged on December 31, 2009. Northwest Airlines previously had merged with Republic Airlines which would include Hughes Airwest, Bonanza Air Lines, Pacific Air Lines, West Coast Airlines, North Central Airlines and Southern Airways.
